A summer where dreams were born back in 2005...

Since I remember what I wanted to be in life. I remember I wanted to write movies ( Screenplays), novels or to direct/ act in movies. Well… Acting is just not for me as far as I know.

I intended to write a Screenplay when I was in Junior high School, but that didn’t happened.
During College I started writing novels ( I’ll tell you about this in another post really soon! Promise!) Then It came the time when I had to decided what I wanted to study. “director” I thought. “film making” I started looking for schools. There’s one in Mexico, City…But it didn’t convince me. I found many in the US. But I found one in particular where the course was just 1 to 2 years long. I told my father about it and He told me that if I studied something normal first He would pay the film school for me. Something normal...mmm…Business Management! My dad has a business so I thought that would be normal enough for him. I started college and during my second semester I asked my dad How possible it would be for me to take a summer film making course that year? (Back in 2005) He said “100% possible”. That was in January! I applied to the school. I got accepted. I paid and then those 6 months flied by! When I less thought of it, I was in Mexico City taking an airplane to Orlando, Florida. They recommended me to read a book, which I read entirely before going to Orlando, Florida.
The New York Film Academy is characterized by its Hand on philosophy. That’s what call my attention when I was decided where to study. Also, songs of the biggest film maker have studied there. Like the son of my god Steven Spielberg and the son of Price Bronnan. They have summer courses all over the world, but I chose Florida because of Disney world and because some of the classes are held in the Disney MGM Studios (today known as The Disney Hollywood studios).

I got there and my plane was delayed so I missed the registration process. I chose to have a roommate. We stayed at the All stars Music Hotel. I had a lot of luck my roommate was nice. Weird but nice. His name is James (I haven’t heard from him since the program ended) The following day I did not know what to do because I didn’t have a schedule. I went to have breakfast . My first Mickey waffle. But I was too nervous that I couldn’t’ eat it. I got my student Id and then we took a van to where the classes were going to be held that day. “The Saratoga Springs Hotel”. I was to scared of not understanding the classes as it was my first time in the US all by my self. ( I can listen to that Celine’s Dion song in my head right now) Thank God I understood almost all. The classes were really cool. That same first day of class We were using the cameras loading the film.
I meet really good friends there. We divided ourselves into groups of 3. The crew where will be working every weekend to film our projects. My Crew was formed by Ashley Kelly from Pittsburg and Vicki Koval from Orlando. I love them! It was really fun working with them. The first weekend We had to shoot a short film in just one shot. ( the one I uploaded here a couple of weeks ago) I was so nervous of how it was going to come out. Light gave a hard time the whole course. It’s kind of complicated to measure it and know What it’s going to be lit and not. Well…it’s not complicated, it just requires time and patient. And well… a couple of fingers burned by those 1000 watts lights! That weekend I meet someone form another course. Her name is Cristina Davo. She was great! She and I went to church on Sundays! And We hang out in the MGM studios theme park !

Everyday We learned something new from film making. The continuity lesson was really interesting. And that was our second week project. The one you saw. “Love at first assault”
Then the third week we had to shoot our final project. I told you more about his project in another post and also will post the project.
I also meet a very special persona to me. I didn’t not get to work with her. But up to now I still keep in touch with her. Her name is Yennis Martin from Venezuela.
It was an unforgettable experience. When It ended I felt I had happened so fast!
If you are interested in films but not know if it is what You want to do in life. I’d recommend this summer workshop. It helped me to convince myself Films is what I want to do in my life. Story telling is something I love and that really passionate me!
