Song of the week- Migrate

This week's song of the week is one of my all time favorite songs. Although, it just came out this year. The moment i first listened to it, I loved it! The beat is really good and makes you want to dance! This HAS to be a single or Mariah would waste her best up-beat hip-hop song!

Since it starts You listen the reason why Mariah's voice is so powerful!

I didn't use to like Mariah Carey that much until I listen to this new album E=MC2. I fell inlove with her beautiful voice. The lyrics to her songs are really sweet. No matter if You are inlove or not, There's a song for You.

I really don't know much of notes and music, but I know She has a very wide vocal range. She can hit many kinds of high and low notes. Just Watch this video and you'll hear why She is the BEST!

And Here You can listen to all the notes She can reach. It's really interesting actually.

Hope you like it!

Quote of the week

I've decided to put here some quotes I love everyweek. Some of them will be mine, others will be taken from different authors, movies or songs...

Here's the first one:

"Hearts can't be practical until they are made unbreakable" by the Wizard of Oz.

Right?

A "Wickedly" amazing story...

Wicked: The times and life of the wicked witch of the west.
I was looking for something to read on my flight back from Spain. I had already picked a different book. Something related to a prophecy. I love prophecies. But then I saw this novel and remembered having heard great reviews about it, plus I was interested in the Broadway musical.
I began to read it when I was in the Airport at Madrid. Immediately It gained my attention. I wanted to keep reading and reading. It’s one of those kind of books where You just stop reading when your eyes are closing or weeping of tiredness.
If you have seen the Wizard of Oz movie (I bet you have! It’s a classic If not, go see it!) You probably know who the green witch is. Yep! The wicked witch of the west! And You will also know that She hates Dorothy because Her house landed over The West’s Witch sister, The Wicked Witch of the East…But well…You knew nothing, because the story starts many years before that when The green Witch Elphaba was born . When her mother was pregnant to be exact, before the Wizard of Oz landed on Oz and even before Dorothy was born…
You may think It is another childish fantasy book, but it is not. Actually I wouldn’t recommend it for kids. 1.- They would understand it. 2.- There are something things that aren’t suitable for young children.
It is a book that has a fantasy touch for adults. A story that has politics, love and that is filled with the desire of a woman to change the system.
It is a story were animals can talk and think as if they were humans. Some of them are more intelligent than human themselves. And what would happen on the Earth if that was possible? Even when Animal were able to think, Humans will make them less. Wouldn’t the fact of thinking make Animals equal to Humans?... Yes it would, but in Oz as it would happen on the Earth is something that is just not acceptable.
Why does somebody go evil? Are they born this way? Or is it the circumstances that turn you evil? As you keep reading the book You’ll find out and prove the theory that humans are born good and other people and life circumstances turn them evil, sometimes for a reasons, sometimes just because they are different from the rest… But Who decides who’s evil and who’s not? Somebody might think He is doing the good, while for other’s He is doing wickedness. Sometimes the good can be the evil and vice versa. I think the author of the book gives us his theory about good and evil with this story….And I share his opinion, People can make people go wicked… What happens to You in your life is what makes You be they way you are.
I even got to love the Villain, and that’s something that rarely happens in novels.
When someone try to change what we are used to, We think they are wicked just for the fact of them changing what we know, even when what We know is wrong… There’s some philosophy in this book about good and evil, and about what’s socially wrong and right.
The book is cleverly written and just when you want to stop reading something will happen that will keep you more interested.
The only think I did not like about this book is the fact that sometimes You want to know more about something but there isn’t more and You just have to speculate what happened.
There’s no comparison with the Wizard of Oz. You cannot like one better than the other because They are different. The Witch is underrated on the Wizard of Oz story and She is just the “villain” while Dorothy is the Heroine. Contrary, in Wicked, Dorothy is not a heroine, She is just Dorothy. There are some similarities in both stories where they mutually coincide, but they are totally different stories…I don’t want to spoil the story for you.
This one is a book I extensively recommend.
It even let me wanting to read the following novel that is call “Son of a Witch.” But I guess that will have to wait as that book is not out in Mexico yet and I’m obsessively reading “Twilight”.

The last Fight, The last day of His life...

I was fighting because I was trained to do so…But I really didn’t’ have a reason to do it nor my opponent had one. We were just following our instincts, after all that’s what We Animals Do…I felt a knife wound and then another. Blood started running and sprinkling everywhere. I wanted just to lay down and cure my injuries but If I had done it, I would just have gotten more. So no matter the pain I was feeling I kept fighting and wounding my rival. There was a point in the fight where We had lost so much blood that We just couldn’t keep moving The owner of my life, took me…I felt relieved for a couple of minutes. He checked my wounds and started blowing on my head so I wouldn´t pass out. If he hadn’t done so, I would have fainted… Suddenly, they changed the knife attached to my leg for a bigger one and they put me on the floor again…They were expecting me to keep on fighting and to kill my opponent this time. …I couldn’t even keep my head up, It started falling as If I was about to sleep; and that would have meant that my opponent had won. The owner of my life took my head and put it resting on my back…Everything started to look blurry and suddenly I felt a knife opening one of the parts of my body that wasn’t bleeding….My opponent felt over me and died…I started feeling that my wounds were healing as my life was going away…TIE! I heard someone screaming….
A Rooster….

Ok I went to the fair again last night and that was what happened in the last rooster fight…I just don’t stand watching them and I don’t stand people betting on them and making money out of them either….

Last time I comment on this…Promise.

Roosters bleeding for the entertainment of humans

Last Friday night I went to a concert here at my state’s fair. The concerts that are held here are not regular concerts, meaning that singers sing more than they would do on a regular concert and people that perform there are singers who really sing, and just sing, they usually don’t dance but can entertain the audience with just their powerful voices.
The concerts start usually around midnight and last for over 2 hours and some last over 3!
Before the concert You can play bingo or bet on rooster fights, one of the most degrading things I’ve seen involving animals. I understand people being entertained by boxing, or by people fights, but I don’t really see why people love to watch Animals fight each other, in this case rooster fighting each other until one of them is dead or agonizing.
As far as I know Animals have nerves and consequent to that they FEEL…I don’t have anything against of people eating them as I do it my self. Is a human need we have to satisfy, but since when it is a human need to see animals fighting each other? Just because they are animals and “apparently “they don’t have soul they can die to please humans?
I don’t see the point in training roosters for their whole lifes if they are going to loose their life in a matter of minutes in the most horrible way involving pain that exists. Well...there’s a point …to make MONEY…

Not only They kill each other, but They do it using little knifes attached to their legs. I was very impressed to see all that blood after the fight and the roosters all wounded or agonizing.
Good thing, roosters fights is not something around the world, otherwise it would be featured in the Olympics (There’ll be roosters all over the world competing and the Chinese and American roosters would win all the gold medals) Ok..I’m just kidding…But really, People have to find another way to make money…go to the casinos or bet in car races…But don’t do it with Animals (I’ve heard of places where there is dogs fights)…
I feel like Aelphaba right now... (Review of Wicked: The life and times of the wicked witch of the west coming soon) People who have read the book, know what I mean.

Love at First assault

This was the second Project I did during the film making Workshop back in the summer of 2005. It was during the second week of class. The rule was that in a minute or so We had to use as many cuts as possible to tell a story with no jumps in places or in time.

I thought of many stories and I still have them written somewhere (I’ll probably use them next year when I go to study there again) The Reason I chose to film this one in particular, was that I couldn’t find any actors for the day I had to shoot the film!!! I finally found two that could only work with me in the morning and for just one hour. You might think “1 hour? For 1 minute film? That’s a lot!”… But No, You are wrong….One hour was a really short time to do it. If you count that in each take You have to measure light, measure the camera distance and rehearse with the actors, 1 hour becomes a really short time…anyway I managed to do it and The professor really like it. I kind of used American humor on it, so all my classmates laughed with it. I still remember what the professor told me “you got an audience response in just 1 minute! That’s good!”

The actress in this short film is named Marissa Morris. I think She now has a tv program in a local network in Florida and Ryan Conroy is a Guest service manager in Orlando. ( I think I saw him once in the Magic Kingdom) He is not a professional actor, He is just an amateur who likes to act.
I remember we shot the slap take around 5 times. Ryan’s cheek was really red, but well “Pain is temporary, Films are forever” Also I remember that the film broke while we were shooting because it was too tight haha…Thank God It didn’t affect what I had already shot.

Morning Newspaper

Back in 2005, I finally got to study Film making. I attended the 4 week film making summer Workshop offered by the New York Film Academy at the Disney MGM Studios ( Today known as the Disney Hollywood Studios).
I learned a lot about film making back then. If you are interested in film making, that Workshops from the NYFA is something I highly recommend. You start using the cameras since the first day of class. You get to do everything! You mount the roll in the camera, You do the lighting, the measurement, EVERYTHING! And You write, shoot and edit your own Films! It was a really short time, but it was an incredible experience.
This was the first thing I did. It was out first Project after just 5 days of class. By then, We already knew the basics of lighting, , lenses, foot candles and camera. aperture. We worked in teams of 3, and we rotate between 3 different positions: Director, Director of photography, and Camera Assistant. So that means that over the weekend We shot 3 short films each of them, directed by one of us.
The rule for this Project was that We had to tell a story in just one shot of about 1 minute or so….
And here’s what I did…

When I was thinking of the concept for this Project I conceived the same story but in a different place. At the end I ended up changing it to what You actually see, because if I had done what I originally thought of, I would have needed a Dolly camera and many, many lights…The original concept took place in a very fancy restaurant and would have been a little bit longer, and may be it would have been more difficult to achieve it in just one shot with out cuts….
