A "Wickedly" amazing story...

Wicked: The times and life of the wicked witch of the west.
I was looking for something to read on my flight back from Spain. I had already picked a different book. Something related to a prophecy. I love prophecies. But then I saw this novel and remembered having heard great reviews about it, plus I was interested in the Broadway musical.
I began to read it when I was in the Airport at Madrid. Immediately It gained my attention. I wanted to keep reading and reading. It’s one of those kind of books where You just stop reading when your eyes are closing or weeping of tiredness.
If you have seen the Wizard of Oz movie (I bet you have! It’s a classic If not, go see it!) You probably know who the green witch is. Yep! The wicked witch of the west! And You will also know that She hates Dorothy because Her house landed over The West’s Witch sister, The Wicked Witch of the East…But well…You knew nothing, because the story starts many years before that when The green Witch Elphaba was born . When her mother was pregnant to be exact, before the Wizard of Oz landed on Oz and even before Dorothy was born…
You may think It is another childish fantasy book, but it is not. Actually I wouldn’t recommend it for kids. 1.- They would understand it. 2.- There are something things that aren’t suitable for young children.
It is a book that has a fantasy touch for adults. A story that has politics, love and that is filled with the desire of a woman to change the system.
It is a story were animals can talk and think as if they were humans. Some of them are more intelligent than human themselves. And what would happen on the Earth if that was possible? Even when Animal were able to think, Humans will make them less. Wouldn’t the fact of thinking make Animals equal to Humans?... Yes it would, but in Oz as it would happen on the Earth is something that is just not acceptable.
Why does somebody go evil? Are they born this way? Or is it the circumstances that turn you evil? As you keep reading the book You’ll find out and prove the theory that humans are born good and other people and life circumstances turn them evil, sometimes for a reasons, sometimes just because they are different from the rest… But Who decides who’s evil and who’s not? Somebody might think He is doing the good, while for other’s He is doing wickedness. Sometimes the good can be the evil and vice versa. I think the author of the book gives us his theory about good and evil with this story….And I share his opinion, People can make people go wicked… What happens to You in your life is what makes You be they way you are.
I even got to love the Villain, and that’s something that rarely happens in novels.
When someone try to change what we are used to, We think they are wicked just for the fact of them changing what we know, even when what We know is wrong… There’s some philosophy in this book about good and evil, and about what’s socially wrong and right.
The book is cleverly written and just when you want to stop reading something will happen that will keep you more interested.
The only think I did not like about this book is the fact that sometimes You want to know more about something but there isn’t more and You just have to speculate what happened.
There’s no comparison with the Wizard of Oz. You cannot like one better than the other because They are different. The Witch is underrated on the Wizard of Oz story and She is just the “villain” while Dorothy is the Heroine. Contrary, in Wicked, Dorothy is not a heroine, She is just Dorothy. There are some similarities in both stories where they mutually coincide, but they are totally different stories…I don’t want to spoil the story for you.
This one is a book I extensively recommend.
It even let me wanting to read the following novel that is call “Son of a Witch.” But I guess that will have to wait as that book is not out in Mexico yet and I’m obsessively reading “Twilight”.
